Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
This week 17 runners turned up to help weed the garden of local community park; Papas Park - a good turn out considering the chilly weather and imminent threat of tube strikes! We gathered in the usual spot outside City Pantry in Market Row, Brixton for the task briefing.
"almost impossible"
A quick run took us to Papa’s park and some of us got to work pulling up the weeds from the flowerbeds while others took on the almost impossible task of fixing the ping pong table. A lengthy-ish battle to straighten out the table that involved a fair few good-gymers scratching their heads eventually ended in success!
"horrendous"
Most of the group then ran on to Max Roach park to warm up round the 250 metre circuit. However, a few brave runners stayed behind to ‘take on’ the compost. It took 4 volunteers to lift the bin and move the contents to the compost pile, whilst avoiding the dripping, composty sludge and trying not to gag at the truly horrendous smell, well done them. When they did catch up with the rest of the group in the park everyone took part in a 1 kilometer (4 lap) timed run, a great way to get our heart rates up and test ourselves.
"deep lunges"
After a short run back to base we finished the evening off nicely by giving some passersby an eyeful while doing some very deep lunges and downward-dog style stretching. Register for next weeks run and bring your friends/family/neighbours/colleagues/pets!
