Bring it all back to good
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Southwark.
- Friday, 11th of December 2020
Tonight started the same as any other Friday shopping deed - scrambling to finish work on time, heaving myself off the chair and getting out in the dark, wet and cold to run to a stranger's home. But when I arrived it wasn't a shopping deed like any other. Mrs M looked stricken - she thought I would have the food with me already, and explained that she'd barely eaten for 2 days. She'd injured her leg and back so couldn't make it to the shops or carry bags, her worried daughter lives in St Albans and couldn't get down to help her and they hadn't been able to get a delivery slot online, so she was truly stuck without Goodgym's help.
So, armed with the cash and bags I trotted to the supermarket and tried to collect everything in double quick time, not an easy feat in an unfamiliar shop. Scanning it through the till, I reflected on some of the other shopping trips I've done since March. We can all agree 2020 has been a pretty shoddy year but I'm so grateful that Goodgym has enabled me to do something to make it a little bit less terrible. Delivering that much needed shop brought a small tear to my eye and I was pleased to be able to run off into the darkness from whence I came with Christmas tunes blasting to banish the blues.
