Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Nathan Wood
Six goodgymers looked out the window today, saw rain, and decided that wasn't enough to stop them showing up to do another deed at the Brixton Windmill! And good thing too, because after spending 10 minutes with a cup of tea inside the clubhouse the rain subsided to allow us to get on with our task.
The numbers steadily grew as Sarah and Joao drifted in from having been to other tasks. A few of us - Tracey, Michael, Caroline (a Windmill volunteer) and I - cleared one of the beds and began to plant spinach, lettuce and ...? (forgive my memory please!).
Sarah and Clare planted some bulbs on the grass by the Windmill. Looking forward to seeing those sprout later! They then got to work with Michael and Joao clearing leaves around the park.
Exellent work from the team. We will be back in December to help the Windmill team set up for their Winter fair (ft. Santa's Grotto). 🎅
The Friends of Windmill Gardens (FoWG) were formed in 2003 with three aims: * to get the Grade II listed Brixton Windmill restored and opened for public visits – in 2002 it had been put on English Heritage's buildings at risk register; * to make Windmill Gardens park a more welcoming space for local people; * to have a new education centre at the windmill. Windmill Gardens gained a Green Flag Community Award in 2015 and we have just been judged again so our fingers are crossed that we will retain the award for the next two years.
