Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Saul Muldoon
Kirkwood Hospice are certainly keeping GoodGym Huddersfield busy. After delivering leaflets promoting their Midnight Walk and marshalling at their Colour Rush event last month, this time we were out on the streets of Huddersfield posting flyers advertising their charity Christmas Cards. The sale of cards is a key fundraiser for the hospice and helps contribute to the immense ongoing costs of keeping their essential service running.
And we were running too, all the way to Moldgreen with a backpack full of flyers to pop through letterboxes in the area surrounding Ravensknowle Park. Myself, Kati Law, Ben Godfrey and Wendy Redmile set off for the 2 and a bit kilometres to the park where we met David Bilton. David who is currently unfortunately injured but commendably still keen to help with the task. Although obviously we prefer to see everyone for the run, meeting us “on site” for the task is always an option for anyone who is unable to run.
Rendezvous made, we divided our stack of flyers up, with Kati and Wendy being dispatched to post on Ravensknowle Road, whilst Ben, David and myself leafletted Lister Street in the dry, cool, crisp conditions of a lovely October evening. I have to say GoodGym Huddersfield are experts at leaflet drops, a fact which makes sometimes estimating volumes very difficult. We rapidly depleting our supply of flyers as the team flew up and down garden paths rapidly distributing them.
After approximately 35 minutes, and somewhat quicker than expected we were done. We were clean out of supplies and most of the houses in the Ravensknowle Park area were now aware of how to purchase their Christmas cards and support the hospice at the same time. A short task makes for more time for a fitness session, so it was back to the park for the GoodGym Huddersfield wall sit challenge. We’ve not done this for a while, but Wendy Redmile showed her steely determination hold out against the pain of lactic acid build up in her quad muscles for a whole 3 minutes 10 seconds. Well done Wendy!
With slightly wobbly legs we all then headed back to the Stadium enjoying the long final descent down Bradley Mills Lane. Thanks to all last night’s GoodGymmers, next week we will be leafleting for Kirkwood Hospice once again....looking forward to it already!
