Regulars at the East End Women food bank, me and Max were back for this wednesday bonus community mission.
Max's main task was unpacking tinned food from the latest delivery into creates of the same kind of food and putting them in the correct section on the shelves. It was great to see the additional shelving up and the huge difference it made. It was now much easier to locate all the different types of foods and get crates out than when they were all piled on top of each other.
My job was restocking the main shelves with the items from the creates in the other room. I started with UHT milk and breakfast cereals, before moving on to tinned food such as chickpeas, beans and rice pudding. No prizes for where my mild craving for rice pudding came from!
Max also helped taking deliveries out to the drivers when needed. The time flew by and in no time the hour was up!
East End Women offers practical courses for women to build confidence and skills around DIY, sewing, pattern cutting and basic trades. We also deliver the Freedom Programme domestic abuse recovery course, helping women to better understand the roots of domestic abuse and build confidence to identify warning signs in the future. In addition to this, East End Women also offer social activities and drop-in sessions for women experiencing isolation to meet one another, make friends and build local networks.
