Many elderly neighbours have struggled through the latest lockdown restrictions, including Mrs D, a 90 year old living on her own. Although Mrs D has helpful neighbours and regular carers, she still misses having company, and needs help with some day to day activities. I first met Mrs D some years ago, when she was diagnosed, in her 80's, as having Coeliac Disease. A friend asked if I may be able to give her some advice, as our son had also been diagnosed, as a baby. For some years Mrs D joined my husband, son and I on days out to Gluten-free food fairs and meals. After losing my husband, contact with Mrs D ended, although she continued to send a card at Christmas. This year I felt ready to reconnect with Mrs D, so called to pass on a card, some gluten-free treats, and an offer of help, when needed. We had a lovely chat through the window, during which she asked if I could help to sort out her many overgrown plant pots. It was great to catch up and I hope this will be the first of many visits.
