It was another wet Monday in Wandsworth, and when I say wet, it was completely sodden. Couple that with it being the day after the marathon, and we were a little thin on the ground with numbers compared to usual. But that didn't stop five tough GGers making it to Waste Not Want Not to put in a good shift and, despite the rain, making good things happen!
Annabel, Lorna and I took a chatty but slightly haphazard jog down to the charity, which saves perfectly good food from being thrown away and uses it to feed the community, to meet Jamal and Catherine. We were wowed to see the changes that had taken place since the last time we were there. The storage area has been turned into a dining room for the community and there are new facilities such as showers for people to use.
Hadas and her volunteers were very concerned about us working in the rain but we convinced them we were waterproof and got cracking. Our first job was to pack up the van with the last of the building detritus before starting work on the planters. With space at Waste Not Want Not at a premium, we had to transfer the plants outside the property into crates before replanting them in the raised beds. As always it proved that many hands make light work, and before long one whole wall of boxes had been emptied and loads of plants had found their new home. We didn't even have to water them in, so maybe the rain was good news after all!
Thanks to all the bank holiday Mondays in May we're moving next week's group run to Tuesday as a one off and we'll be going to Doddington roof garden - hope to see you there! Keep your fingers crossed it's a bit less wet next week...
