Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
12 Goodgymers ran 5.5k and helped Crutch Haringey tidy up there clothes bank
Big shouts out to Irene, Jonathan, Rachael and Manish who tamed their first GGH session nicely.
We had a journalist come and join us for this session. Jonathan is doing some work for our local magazine. After a quick chat about GoodGym Haringey people started to trickle in and the conversations got going nicely. Before heading out for our warm up and briefing we took a quick snap with a GIANT Time Credit I’ll come back to that in a mo.
Toe Taps n Tag
We warmed up with a round of toe taps n tag, then did some high kness (w/ a jump) 😁 during our briefing so as not to get too chilly. We were soon warm and ready to hit the road, heading in the direction of Crutch just over 2k away. The run out was at a comfy pace, with our group splitting in two to suit different abilities. We headed up through the Lordship Recreational Ground, which is always a nice addition to our runs in that direction. A few minutes later we arrive at Crutch Haringey.
Pinafores
The lovely Keisha warmly welcomes us and gives her introduction to the task. Wasting no time at all everyone got stuck into the task at hand. We were faced with shelves full of clothes which needed to be neatly sorted and folded into size / age / gender piles. We had male, female and children's clothes including pinafores, as part of the school uniforms, to get sorted. But first we moved the clothes into a bigger room that could house the whole group. Everyone quickly got a system going and before long there were several piles of clothes assembling. We were making good progress and Keisha seemed to be in awe of the teams gleeful grafting. Keisha's colleague came along to have a little peak too. Both were very impressed at our bohemian way of volunteering. Unfortunately time flew by and we were fast approaching the end of the task. The group stepped things up a gear and we managed to transport the sorted clothes bank into the storeroom - finishing one section of the room. We’ll be back!
A Delightful Donation From GGH
Our return journey we decided not to stop for a quick fitness session due to time but we got in a good old sprint along the home straight. Great effort here guys. While warming down I mentioned the Time Credit donations that we had made in the Haringey Community. Over the past 10 months we have been saving up the Time Credits received by each person who has volunteered with us. We managed to accumulate 344 Time Credits of which 300 have been donated. The Time Credits can be used for trips to the museum, picture house, ice skating and much more.
We donated to the following:
The Kori Charity (Milton Road Estate) – 75 Hours Time Credits
The Broadwater Utd Sports Football Academy (BUSFA) – 75 Hours Time Credits (Broadwater Farm Community Centre)
The Bruce Grove Youth Centre – 75 Hours Time Credits
Haringey Shed – 75 Hours Time Credits
The remaining 44 will be used for a GGH social. I wanted to point out to everyone that it doesn’t matter how many Time Credits you donated.. first and foremost you’ve taken the time out to do good & get fit with GoodGym. Even if you donated one or two Time Credits – that’s enough to get one child/young person into an attraction or experience something they may not have, had you not taken part. Out to all who donated.. you did double good!!
We’ll be continuing to double up on our goodness into the future!!
