Report written by Mia Gomez
Regenerate Rise is an organisation based in my community and their mission is to eradicate isolation across the UK. They provide a combination of services which include lunches, outings, activities, pastoral and practical support, outreach, hospital and home visiting.
During the Covid-19 outbreak they are helping the isolated and vulnerable elderly more than ever, and they have asked if members of the community can help them. I've joined as a volunteer and this weekend, I helped deliver supplies and lunches to four different people.
I collected the items, all bagged and ready, from the Platt Centre in Putney, which is one of their bases. With the items, I was provided with gloves and a face mask (after being asked to wash my hands). I drove first to one address where two of the people I was delivering lived, they both were in and grateful to receive their supplies and lunch.
I then made my way to the next address which was a 3 minute drive from the first one, where the other two people lived.
I was able to find one of them at home, however, the last one had left me a note on the door to let me know that she was in the laundry room within the building. Unfortunately, the building was really big and I wasn't too sure where it was. On my way to find it, I saw a lovely lady and, whilst keeping the 2m distance, I asked her to point me in the right direction. As it turns out, she was the person I was looking for! As the bags were slightly heavy, she made her way to her flat and I followed her (keeping the 2m distance). I then placed the bags on her front door and made my way back. She was also very grateful and thankful, as were the others.
