Report written by Nicky West
Tonight 11 runners got together to help a cause very close to the heart of one of our team. Martel works closely with SeeAbility and therefore we were very keen to help out and provide some GoodGym energy to help LIGHT UP their lives!
We kicked off the night with celebrations for Mark and Jenna Barun who demonstrated WATT dedication is by coming to lead our run on their 3rd Wedding Anniversary! Happy Anniversary from all of GoodGym. Thank you for making GoodGym Kingston a reality and for helping to change the lives of so many runners and community members. We are so grateful for all that you do for us and we’re glad we could be there to celebrate with you in style tonight!
Rather than taking steps down the aisle, tonight we were taking the steps up towards Guildhall with a fantastic stairway to heaven workout that flexed our coordination skills and our muscles. Our creeping monster stair crawl definitely made the warm up LIGHT hearted.
Our task for the evening was to put up the Christmas lights for the residents of the SeeAbility home where 5 residents eagerly welcomed us. Their enthusiasm and smiles certainly BRIGHTENED up a dark and wet Tuesday evening and provided all the motivation we needed. After a fantastic briefing from Martel, who made sure that no one was LEFT IN THE DARK, we were split into teams and quickly set to work.
Never is a GoodGym runner as excited as when the tool list for a task includes ladders, stencils, spray snow and fairy lights - finally our rewards for all those litter and leaf picking missions!
The residents were deLIGHTed with the finished product and despite the rain they came out to say thank you FAIRY much for our LIGHTNING quick decorating.
The end result...Lampoons eat your heart out!!!! #christmas #kingston #running #goodgym #volunteering #lightup #seeingthings #lights pic.twitter.com/aWzRFoc9IB

One GoodDeed was not enough for this group tonight - Nik and Samia not only guided us all back through the rain but they also helped a cyclist who had gone over his handlebars and thankfully was relatively unscathed. When we reached Guildhall Jenna was only 900m off her 1,000km running target for the year, so we helped her to reach her awesome milestone with one final lap around the Kingston Christmas Square! Double congratulations for you tonight Jenna for your 3rd Wedding Anniversary and Running milestone celebrations! So glad we could be there to see both!!
Thanks all round - WATT a fab night!
