Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Rosa
5 GoodGym Newham runners, Callum, Paul, Hilary, Graham and Rosa, were very happy to be back at one of our regular spots on Saturday for the first post-lockdown community mission at Cody Dock! Basia had a great task lined up for us, planting a range of small and large trees (all relative really... technically they were all 'saplings') in the local community around Cody Dock as part of an initiative to encourage new plant growth and deter the littering that can sometimes be a problem by Cody Road. After a full briefing from Basia we loaded up our wheelbarrows with various tools and trees and headed off to get planting, which involved digging holes, 'punching' pots, 'tickling' roots, and building frames for the trees to grow against. Special mentions to Hilary who was entrusted with the all important officious clipboard and keeping us on track, ensuring we labelled each new tree and the location it was planted in, and Paul who became the go-to big rock handler in a couple of especially tricky spots. It was also nice to see GGN's Chris on a walk through Cody Dock with his puppy Poppy, who seemed keen to get involved in digging holes herself!
Thanks to Cody Dock for another great mission and we're all looking forward to being back again soon.
