Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
A super quick mission for Mr G was the order of the day tonight, as I met up with Tim and Latoya to move some furniture in Hackney!
Mr G is currently in hospital and is scheduled to be released tomorrow. In order to be released, he needs a hospital bed set up in his home, which first requires some space to be made for it. GoodGym were asked to help out with this.
I spent about 15 minutes pre-mission thinking about puns in a nearby park before Latoya arrived and surprised a pastry out of me (I was never a teenager that sat in a park drinking cider, but I could have been one that sat and drank custard ๐). We chatted for about 10 minutes more before I spotted some red out of the corner of my eye: "Hello!!! GoodGymmer!!!" I yelled, while waving and jumping a little. It was Tim, ready and keen for his second ever mission and partway through a training run!
Our trio assembled, we made our introductions to Mrs G and got started!
The first item of furniture to be moved was an armchair that was being relocated from the ground floor to the first floor. As the stairway was only big enough for two people to carry the armchair up, I called shotgun and elected to "direct" Tim and Latoya from below while they did all of the heavy lifting. I like to think that my role was to provide them with both moral support and a screwdriver when the armchair inevitably revealed itself to also be a bed midway through the move [Today's unveiling was quite impressive actually: the armchair unfolded itself in such a way as to get stuck between two doors, the hallway and the stairs, and needed a foot removed in order to free it. I can't really blame the armchair for this though - If I had a transformative superpower, I would also want to display it to people in the most dramatic way possible]. At least one of my moral support and my screwdriver obviously did the trick, as Latoya and Tim soon had the chair free and were placing it in the designated room.
As I felt that Latoya and Tim were on a roll and as I was really feeling my own role, I kindly allowed them to continue with the mission by carrying an antique Davenport up the stairs while I took photos (that's just the sort of person I am ๐) There was a bit of tension in the air as they concentrated on not breaking anything, but I managed to lessen it a little by distracting them with chitchat (you're welcome ๐) Thankfully, this part of the move went entirely smoothly and nothing got stuck; great job, guys!
Mrs G seemed very relieved when everything was moved, as Mr G can now be released home tomorrow as planned. We spent a few minutes chatting with her before Tim ran off for part II of his run, Latoya went to work, and I slunk away to binge watch Bob's Burgers (you get all sorts on missions).
Thanks for making everything so easy for me tonight, guys! ๐
