Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Kash
Having visited Station New Generation and Station Donation, Sevan and Kash landed at Station Excavation expecting to be involved in ancient archaeology and search for extraterrestrial influences in the faraway Lambeth.
The distress signal from Station Excavation was sent 20 years ago by an individual called Mr D by some or Mr L by others. As Sevan and Kash found out, he was waiting for years for a team capable of carefully removing a pile of mysterious rubble from his garden. During that time he became deaf and not able to do heavy lifting himself. "It is not a woman's job", Mr D said a bit worried when the GoodGym Ealing expedition arrived. As usual, Sevan and Kash replied "Let's have a look, we'll see what we can do". When Mr D led GoodGymers to the garden, they heard a series of loud barks coming from behind a closed door. They imagined a beast that served as its master's ears and informed him about any suspicious noise it heard. "Do not worry about him", Mr D assured his visitors, "He doesn't bite".
In the garden, Sevan and Kash found two heaps of rubble, three shovels (one of them even not broken), a rake and a bucket. From their conversation with Mr D, they both understood that they needed to dig out and remove the rubble from the area by the garden wall. The debris looked like bricks and stones but the GoodGymers didn't lose hope for finding treasures or signs of ancient aliens. The only question was where to put the excavated material. Mr D pointed at a bigger pile of debris located between the walls of the house and garden. After double-checking whether Mr D wanted all the rubble collected in that spot, Sevan and Kash were ready to rubble!
Using the tools provided, they dug in the soil to uncover plenty of bricks and brick-a-brac: ceramics, soft drink cans and an alien battery. Mr D appeared in the garden, halfway through the task and seemed pleased with the disappearing small rubble heap. He offered the archaeologists hot drinks but Sevan and Kash had already three coffees each that day and said "no, thank you". After converting two debris piles into a single large one in the corner of the garden and raking and flattening the soil after the excavations, they entered the house again and called Mr D. He couldn't hear them but the barking beast picked up the voices and started making noise.
Sevan and Kash presented Mr D with the results of their work. They didn't realise the ancient gods had been summoned during the excavations and they were not pleased with Ealing GoodGymers digging into Lambeth's secrets. As a punishment, the gods released the beast from its prison! A pitbull-looking creature darted into the garden and started jumping at Sevan and Kash. "He won't bite, he is just playful", Mr D assured, scrambling to catch the beast that dropped its collar while running around excited by the sight of guests. Kash tried to calm and cuddle the beast but it was too exhilarated to stay in one place. Finally, Mr D proposed a ruse to lure the pitbull back into the kitchen and close the door before it dashes outside again. That worked.
Having subdued the fury of ancient gods, Sevan and Kash thought that everything went well - but it didn't. The result of the excavations was not as Mr D expected. He believed that all the debris from its garden will be bagged and removed. Oh no! The GoodGymers explained they didn't have any rubble bags and didn't belong to a debris removal business. What's worse - they had only 20 minutes of the mission time left!
Mr D produced a roll of rubble sacks and some bin bags. After the misunderstanding, Sevan and Kash tried their best to fix the situation but realised they wouldn't have completed the task as Mr D wanted it anyway. There were only seven rubble bags provided and they have been filled very quickly. The rubble sacks barely could hold the weight of the large stones and bricks and the bin bags didn't seem strong enough to use at all. While happy with the first part of the GoodGym job, Mr D could not hide a slight disappointment at the outcome of his 20 years of wait to become rubbleless. He was thankful for the help and wished that GoodGymers report back to the base and return to put an end to the rubble dominance in his garden. Sevan and Kash left Station Excavation and headed towards Station Final Destination to rest after a day full of missions.
