Maybe not dropping it like a hot potato, but this afternoon's 2nd task involved dropping off some hot potatoes and other veg. I was contacted this morning by Foodcycle to say that although I was signed up for the cooking task they had no one available to collect the surplus food and wondered if I could possibly fit this in. Having collected some surplus food from the pensioner's Christmas lunch, I was soon on my way to collecting the supermarket surplus ready for the last meal of the year. The hot food from the pensioners lunch meant that the windows of the car were soon steaming up but there was a delicious aroma as I drove across town. My first stop was to Sainsbury's, where there was only a box of fruit cakes and a few items of fruit. Then it was on to Aldi, where at first I thought we would get very little produce, but they came up trumps with about 15 boxes of eggs, various veg and a tray load of tomatoes. This would certainly be the makings of a festive meal I hoped. I was met with delight from the FoodCycle cooking lead who couldn't believe that we already had some precooked food ready to be served. Hot potatoes were dropped off (but not dropped) , along with roasted carrots, parsnips and a large tray of new potatoes.
