On a cold, but dry Thursday evening a group of 6 GG Yorkies went to help local food project.

It was Angela's good deed no 52 and she was presented with the traditional cape of fame to wear throughout the task. Angela has been busy earning good deeds by helping with recent Public Health letters delivery missions and today was the first chance to present her with the cape.

Give Angela a big cheer for achieving 50 good deeds!

Kerry, the project coordinator welcomed and told us about the ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ aims:

  • preventing food from going to waste by running two sessions a week distributing fresh and non-perishable items donated by FareShare and local supermarkets;

  • distribution of 'grab a bag' lunches and children's craft packs during half term holidays;

  • tackling loneliness and social isolation;

  • providing opportunities for local people to volunteer with the project.

The task was to distribute 1000 freshly printed newsletters promoting the project across the local area. We split up in pairs, took our maps, bundles of flyers and with head torches on went to get the job done.

Angela and Michal went south and found the local architecture to be a mix of bungalows, semis and detached houses, which did not make the task easier due to long front gardens. Ed and Rich went east, while Hayden and Max went west. Both teams had to navigate maze of snickets and passageways trying to find front doors and letter boxes.

Some houses have two front gardens - Max

Maybe we have missed couple houses and could not access few blocks of flats, but have completed our rounds just before 8pm. Back at the Community Centre we were treated with some Heroes chocolates, had a chat about the absence of Halloween decorations, forthcoming social runs and community missions, before we all went on our ways home.
