Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Emily (She/her)
I've been signing up for these missions since they were established but this was the first one that I was accepted on. Whilst it was a shock to the system to set my alarm for 7am (as I'm working from home, I've been enjoying lie ins), it was great to get out on my bike for the cycle from Peckham to Vauxhall (which interestingly is 80% of my regular commute). It was particularly enjoyable as the roads were so quiet - so quiet that I got quite a few PBs on Strava...
I found the block with the help of a suited man (security perhaps?) and then found the concierge to let me in as the buzzer was broken. As a bit more exercise, I ran up the stairs to the third floor and found the flat - Miss B was delighted that I'd come to help. As she hadn't made a list, we made one together through the ajar door (when is a door not a door - when it's a jar). This worked well as it allowed me to check in on alternatives quite easily.
We agreed that I'd come back and leave the bag outside the door for her with the receipt and payment details inside.
I then popped down to the nearby Tesco which was pretty well stocked and very empty. I selected the goods (and substitutes in a few places), trying to do the maths as I went along to make sure it would stay in the £20 limit. I was nervous that I might not be able to buy loo roll but I had success! The bill came to £20.05 - until the savings were applied. So the grand total was within the budget. Hoorah!
I popped the bag back upstairs to Miss B to find a lovely note taped to the door. She was so appreciative and really touched. It made me feel rather emotional as I left.
I popped back into Tescos to buy myself a few bits (as I'd not been able to buy baked beans in my local but I'd spotted them here) before cycling home. A lovely start to the day - I feel great to have helped someone in need. And the fresh air was nice too!
