Despite the threat of rain overnight, and a cold snap, the sun was shining on a bright fresh morning by the riverside in Hammersmith.

The GG gang were helping the Friends of Furnivall Gardens at their monthly gardening session, and we were met by their Una and Rachel, who got us to work with various jobs in the beds by the riverside path.

We had friends from GoodGym Hounslow helping out, and welcomed Amy and Christina for their first good deeds today too, but there was bigger excitement this morning. I’m not talking about the weeds or the bushes, or even the sneaky bottle of wine hiding in the lavender. No, it was our Katie’s 50th good deed this morning, and the prospect of sweet treats once we’d helped out. Armed with shovels, spades and secateurs, we got to it.

Michelle, Alanna, Little Miss 50 Good Deeds and Amy were weeding and trimming their bushes at one bed, and even had time to fit in a rather risqué Bush trimming photo shoot too… Meanwhile Christina (who amazingly turned up for her first task even feeling less than brilliant following her booster jab) was tidying up some of the shrubbery at another Bush.

Luis, as the token man (aka twice the height of everyone else here) had caught Una’s eye, and she put him on the biggest heaviest bushes she could find… whilst Lucy got mucky pulling up weeds. Luis had done as much as he could with the tough old wood, and Una decided she would get her chainsaw on it later, and stole Luis away for more jobs on the other side of the gardens!

An hour and a bit later, and two big sacks of green waste later (plus some bonus rubbish bags), we smiled into the sunshine by the water for a group photo, and helped move the sacks before we could get tucked into Katie’s 50th cookie bar bites… Only once we could drag Luis out of sight from Una who was absolutely loving having such a giant around to help (she’d eyed up plenty of tasks for a big strong gentleman like him!).

Well done everyone - massive congratulations to Katie, and a big welcome to Amy and Christina. We hope to see you again soon (and hope you’re feeling better soon Christina!).
