Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Three tasks nailed in one night. THREE. 38 of you turned out and over 100 miles clocked up as well as sprints and circuits. Phew. We totally owned pancake day.
Three tasks mean three reports. So Stacey, Becca and John are going to fill you in with what went down (and up and in). See you all next week x
Group 1 - Brixton Youth Centre - Stacey Stollery Last night, a third of the group ran just over a mile to Brixton Youth Club where we were greeted by Sharon, who introduced to a lovely young chap named Reece who would be giving us instructions for the task. We were all hard at work moving cupboards, storage units, toys etc from a small room inside the office and a large container into the sheds out back. Rebecca then announced that she had eaten a large quantities over the weekend and we were to pay for the amount that she had consumed (and the pancakes she was probably going to gobble up later). She had us doing intense tabata training, then threw in some prison squats and lunges for good measure. After our gruelling leg work out, we headed back to Papa's park where we met with the rest of the group.
Group 2 - Somerleyton Road - Becca Nellis A group of goodgymmers jogged over to meet Paula and Boyd at Six Somerleyton Road. They explained the logistics of the task; with only our brute strength and a shopping trolley to help us, we had to move loads of soil, heavy planters and massive bits of wood along the streets to the dominos club garden. Running around the streets with wood balanced on our heads and a shopping trolley full of soil, we got a few strange looks. Once we made it to the garden, we sprinted back as fast as possible to collect more (it was great interval training and a work out for the arms!) After the task was done, we had a well deserved rest by the fire at dominos, and Paula took us into the building to see the dominos club in action. We then ran back to meet the others whilst talking about our favourite pancake flavours.
Group 3 - Portico Gallery - John Hunter About 12 of us headed up 2.5-mile hill to West Norwood to see John at the Portico Gallery. It took him a little while to explain this week’s task as he couldn’t move his head, due to an over-enthusiastic headstand that he was still regretting from 06:30 yoga at the Portico. However, once we got the gist of it, we set about making a production line to cover and shift 65 market stalls for West Norwood’s Feast Festival. The fun part was sorting them by colour - are they maroon? Are they red? Are they pink? Who knows - it’s pitch black! When in doubt, they’re maroon - a life lesson learned.
