Report written by Gill (She/her)
This afternoon, this GoodGymer was enlisted to help with the food collection for the FoodCycle project in Luton. She and her hubby once again set off in search of surplus produce, and follow a few weeks when the food was very thin on the ground, they both entered Sainsbury's with not only their fingers crossed, but arms and legs too; and believe you me, walking into a supermarket pushing a trolly with your fingers, arms and legs crossed is no mean feat!
Sainsbury's had an interesting array of vegetables to offer us, and a large box of bananas, but unfortunately no dairy or staples. But it was a much more generous donation than the previous two weeks, so we felt that our crossed limbs had paid dividends.
We then headed off to Aldi hoping that we would be equally lucky. At first I thought we were just going to get a box of flowers like last week - which is all very nice to look at, but not much good for filling up hungry tummies. As the flowers came out we looked at each other, crest fallen. But on closer inspection the flowers were hiding a box full of 32 cream cakes as well as some bread products and a few fruits.
So it was with great relief that we delivered the produce as well as the flowers to the church hall, ready for the cooking team to turn into a tasty meal. The chief cook was so pleased with the collection team that he presented one of us with a bunch of flowers from the box as a thank you.
