Adam at the York Foodbank had asked GoodGym for some help at their warehouse to help sort donations. We soon got stuck in, emptying bags, boxes and crates of various items onto a table in some sort of rough order. We were amazed at how many different foodstuffs came in tins. I found an actual tin of pease pudding and discovered it consists of split peas (who knew?!). These were then taken to have their BBE dates checked before being placed in the many aisles of neatly stacked crates with the year dates marked on, some up to 2024! Anything dated 2020 was deemed to be a short code item and was placed in a mixed, separate crate (which I somehow felt a bit sorry for).

I got really good at finding BBE dates on biscuits (a natural talent perhaps?) - Katie.

Cereals were mindboggling! - Richard.

Tea and coffee was provided to keep us going and an hour in most of the donations had been sorted. Then more deliveries arrived from supermarkets, the local police and some school children. Some of us had to leave but Louise and Jackie stayed on to help out - some 3 and a half hours later!
