Report written by Sam Lefevre (he/him)
Claire, Lucy, Michael and Sam met with all the other SOLLA volunteers including Harriet, the founder of SOLLA, by the St Agnes Place gate. After being given litter pickers and bin liners, we went off as a group towards the Kennington estate as a member of the Friends of Kennington Park said the playground area was horribly littered with rubbish. Yet, as we made our way there, there was plenty of other litter to pick up which was made harder with the winds!
Our aim today was to fill 3 bags each, but we only managed to fill one bag each. As we ventured towards the playground area, we found random items like a dirty nappy and a CD case filled with Afrobeats CDs (amongst all the other treasures). Towards the latter end of our session, Claire picked up a Guinness bottle, which wasn't completely empty....but became so as it pour on her white jumper! 😲 To our amusement, but to her anguish...however, our group's luck wasn't about to change as Michael oblivious of where he was walking stepped on a decomposting fox! 😲 Lucy and Sam thought they were next, so it was time to call the session and head back to Kennington Park to hand back the litter pickers!
All in all, five bags were collected as Michael managed to fill a second bag.
