A crisp Wednesday night in Greenwich saw Stephen and I meeting to put up some curtains for Mr & Mrs T. At face value a simple-sounding job but, not for the first time, there was more than met the eye.

Stephen and I have met many times, at both GoodGym Lewisham and on several Missions, so we knew we worked well together. We're also both nearing our 100th task and tour all over London on GG duty.

Upon arrival, Mr T showed us the job in hand: remove 9-feet curtains in the lounge and fit a new set. Easy, right? That's a negative. The new ones were still in the packets, as were the hooks and brackets, and neither of us was too experienced in threading and fitting curtains so it was somewhat trial and error. Poor Stephen's curtain needed a bit more attention but his dogged determination and needlecraft skills won through while I ripped down the old set using an even older set of step-ladders.

With both curtains 'bunched up' and hooks fitted, it was back up the step-ladder to fit and arrange the finished articles, under Mrs T's strict supervison.

I can honestly say that it's been a while since I've met such an chatty, engaging, entertaining and ultimately grateful couple; it was a struggle to leave without them forcing money and gifts on us but, in the interests of getting home, we finally accepted some mini Yorkie bars. There is yet another set of curtains to erect in the back room so Mr and Mrs T will be calling on GoodGym's services very soon. A very pleasant and productive evening.
