Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice
Simon and Paul joined a keen team of local volunteers at Thornhill Square Gardens on a rainy Saturday morning (the first of the year). Paul had run straight from Hampstead Heath parkrun, and Simon was due to run a very muddy cross country event at Horsenden Hill, but both runners found a good solid hour to dedicate to maintaining this lovely garden space!
Anna, the main volunteer coordinator, directed us to a couple of flower beds, and asked us to clear the beds of fallen leaves and branches. Then we trimmed the grass edgings and repaired a collection of broken willow fences lining the beds.
A lovely way to start the weekend! We will be back again on Monday evening!
'A quiet oasis off Caledonian Road. Plenty of space (it is the largest square in Islington) to picnic, rest, read, admire the flowers shrubs and trees, and walk a dog. Volunteers, with the council are working to encourage healthy activities, including walking and yoga, and also to improve the diversity of wildlife in the park.'
