Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jer Boon
I wrapped up in various layers of clothing and waterproofs for this one. I only live a 5 minute walk away from BOG, and as I stepped out of my front door in the rain, I saw a chap walk by carrying what possibly looked like gardening equipment ... I eventually could see it was a couple of apple picker tools, and having managed to catch up found it was indeed Tim, our Bath Organic contact.
He expressed mild surprise that any GoodGymers had made it out on this thoroughly miserable day, but I assured him we’re a hardy bunch at GG, and totally know our way around all weathers and how to dress accordingly!
Laura and Meyrick appeared too, and Tim gave us the task of apple picking from a couple of their trees. We know our way around this sort of task at GoodGym Bath and whilst the others set about the one tree with the picking tools, I was straight up climbing up the other to give it a good shake!
We filled 5 or 6 crates between us, before Tim warmed us up with a cup of tea.
By now, Meyrick (an actual former weatherman, but one who's possibly still on the learning curve of how to dress accordingly for all weathers!) looked thoroughly bedraggled in his GG tshirt and shorts, and was getting somewhat shivery!
We help load up our picks, plus a few other apple crates into the van - they’re off for pressing - and called it a day!
As I write this, I'm assured Meyrick is warming himself up in a steaming hot bath...
Bath Organic Group, or BOG, was set up in 1986 to promote sustainable, local food production and organic gardening in and around Bath.
