Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Barnet runner
Today four fabulous GoodGymmers met at Stephen's House to work in the gardens.
We met with the group of regular volunteers at 11 and were given our tasks: a path had become completely blocked with branches, mud and water with branches stopping the sun from drying it out.
So, we set to work. Cutting back branches with the lobber, moving and chopping down larger branches, cutting back weeds and sweeping the dirt then water away. We made massive progress and had cleared the path in less than an hour. It's now open for everyone in the gardens to use.
Next, we set about chopping up a huge pile of wood, condensing it into piles and then loading in the tractors trailer for removal. It was hard work, and a good core workout I reckon, but we had cleared it after about an hour.
It felt brilliant being out working in the sunshine today and we made a real difference to these lovely gardens. We'll be back there in March: see you then!
A Grade ll listed house with extensive landscaped gardens, gifted for the use and enjoyment of the people by Henry Charles 'Inky' Stephens of the Stephens' Ink Company.
