Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Danny
Pippa and I met in Battersea today to tend to the lovely little garden of Mrs. D.
Her daughter was staying with her to care for her, and had not long since acquired a playmate for Mrs. D, a wee black and white kitten called ‘Bobo.’ And what a playmate she was, the thing seemed to have boundless energy, curiosity and guts. Mrs. D’s daughter who works with people with dementia said the cat was to help improve her mother’s condition, and sure enough she said since having it around her verbal communication had improved.
The garden was one of 9 or so cute sections around a shared courtyard and lawn. Mrs. D’s daughter had thoughtfully watered it in prep for us coming to make the ground easier to work. Thanks to her, the weeds just came straight out by hand. We worked our way around pulling them up but taking care to avoid the tomato plants and the vicious thorns on the roses 🌹 (Pippa still got spiked through thick gloves) All the while we worked, the kitten ran amok chasing flies, quarrelling with neighbouring cats, and pawing at our gloves as we pulled the weeds.
Once we were done I went to another Mission, and Pippa was off to view a new place in SE, so may be joining the illustrious ranks of GoodGym Lewisham sometime soon… 🤞
