Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Eva Sharpe
Three Goodgymers spent a sunday morning clearing Mr G's back garden in Tower Hamlets.
The trio were met by Dave from the local housing association who had kindly offered to help out. He brought round an amazing assortment of tools which came in very handy.
At first glance, there didn't seem to be that much to do in the garden, but Bea, Leanne, Eva and Dave soon found plenty to occupy them for a couple of hours.
From pulling ivy off a fence, digging out brambles, weeding flower beds and packing up branches cut down at a previous GG mission, the group found plenty to do.
Next came the thorny task of cutting back the Blackthorn tree. With Dave from the housing association brandishing the electric saw to cut the branches from the tree, Eva and Leanne made short work of chopping the branches up into smaller pieces with the loppers and Bea packed then up into the massive bags Dave had provided.
While they worked, Mr G's neighbors on both sides popped out to chat to us and wish Mr G well. What a lovely community.
By the end of the morning, they had got through four enormous bags of chopped branches, one normal sized garden waste bag and a bin bag of rubbish. Which all needed to be carefully carried through Mr G's house for collection.
We only had chance to tackle one of Mr G's three trees so I think there'll be a return visit sometime soon to help Dave out with those. Watch out for that soon.
