Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Alex Murtough (he/him)
Dear reader, it didn't start too well.
Oh boy it didn't.
A tale of woe (followed by much loveliness, good deeding, and thorns) is below for your greedy consumption. Prepare yourselves. Pause your reading and grab much calming tea. This, dear reader, is what happened...
I, your reporter of today's mission at the lovely Mrs G's, whilst about to venture into an hour of irrepressible good deeding, just as I was clothing myself in the weapon of choice for all self-respecting (and safe) gardening do-gooders (the garden glove), just as I was about to attack the thorny pile of branches sitting ready to be bagged and binned... stepped, and it's a little painful to write, in a nasty little fox poop. Awful. Terrible. Disgusting. Well, I am saddened to say that this unspeakable affair was worsened. How? I hear you cry! Well, because the lovely Catriona had just pointed out said poop to me.
But did we let this dent our spirits? Did we let this put a pause on our mission to help Mrs G? Did Catriona and I let this prevent us from heading straight into an hour of the best darn good deeding that you're likely to see this side of GG HQ? Of course we bloomin' didn't. Because ladies and gentlemen, that's what grass is for. For poop wiping and spring-boarding you into do-gooding. (I may be making a little too much of this).
Today, Catriona and I headed down to Mrs G's. Following the warmest of greetings and the offer of the best thing in life (tea), Mrs G showed us into her garden. A little palace of green sat amongst the concrete of London, this was a space for Mrs G to enjoy, and Catriona and I were there to ensure that this palace kept its majesty.
Having been spotted by Catriona (I think it's safe to say that Catriona is more observant than I am), we dived into clearing a pile of thorny hedgerow cuttings that Mrs G had recently had cut down. Whilst we did so, we shot the breeze with Mrs G, each of us sharing our lives and our stories.
Having tied up bag no.4, Catriona headed straight for any areas in need of a little TLC and pruned, tidied, and sparkled up Mrs G's. At the same time, I made a start on a low hanging rosebush (swiftly joined by Catriona) which we pruned and tied up higher to the trellis so that it can continue blooming and flourishing.
Following a quick tidy and following Catriona ensuring that I didn't forget my cap that had fallen off of my bag (okay guys, give me a rest, I get it, I'm not very observant), we said our goodbyes to one of the warmest people in London, Mrs G. Thank you Mrs G for a lovely morning that we had the fortune of sharing with you.
Nice one.
P.S. The lack of photos of Catriona is my fault, apologies!

Sounds like such a lovely mission, great job persevering after a dodgy start, and looks like such a nice garden!
