Grease Lightening
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Sunday, 18th of October 2015
Three GoodGymmers turned up at The House of Lords on an unseasonably warm Sunday in mid-October.
Mr and Mrs Lord had had help from GoodGym before and remembered me from previous visits and extended an equally warm welcome to Lucy and Anna (or Hannah for the day!). Today the Lords needed help with tasks in the house and garden which they can't do themselves at their age.
We warmed up by tackling three simultaneous tasks: Lucy swept the leaves in the front garden, Anna hung up a net curtain and I did some heavy lifting and cleaning behind the armchairs and in the hallway.
We then congregated in the kitchen and teamed up to take on the greasy cooker: the girls pulled it away from the wall then Lucy used a reaching claw to rescue "the fallen": a knife, spoons and unidentified stale fruit. The girls cleaned the floor and sides of the adjacent cupboards while I was de-greasing the glass cooker hood. Ironically, the grease was removed with elbow grease!
After an hour or so of work while talking about height, shoe size, our youthful looks and the Lords' impressively long marriage we were done. We said our farewells and went our separate ways to enjoy the rugby, tidying up and another mission.
