An all-female team of five gathered outside Zimbabwe House on The Strand to help Andrea from GROAD (Get Rid Of And Donate) distribute some items of clothing and other essentials to people in need. Four of us had done this before so were feeling a bit more prepared for the chaos! We split into two groups to offer coats and sleeping materials (blankets, sleeping bags, etc), with the other group trying to manage the queue for bags of clothes and shoes from the back of the van. With most of the items gone, we focused our final efforts on gathering up loose items of clothes that had been discarded on the floor and offering more specific clothing to those who asked for it. We called it a day when things started to quieten down a bit and helped to pack up the van with the things we didn’t find a home for (hopefully they’ll get another shot next time!)
