Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Sevan
When Kash and Sevan arrived at Ms L's house, it looked quite bare. The house had been flooded and due to Ms L's health conditions, she needed her bed to be on the ground floor and before that, for a carpet to be laid.
The mission description said that 3 small, empty cabinets needed to be moved for the carpet to be laid. Talking to Ms L, Kash and Sevan understood that there were 3 large, heavy cabinets to be moved that were full of stuff. When we looked inside, they were each like mini Aladdin's caves, chock full of papers, food and crockery.
This was unexpected for us, even by the usual mission description standards. There was a big difference and this looked like a lot more work!
Ms L expressed surprise at Sevan and Kash's appearance. She has assumed that 2 big men were coming to help her, so this was unexpected for her too.
Inside the caves we discovered the complete works of James Joyce and Shakespeare, a vintage bottle collection and shelves full of Betamax cassettes (Google them, young folk).
We also found some lanterns. We rubbed them, hoping that a genie would appear to help us, but alas, these lanterns weren't the magic kind. So, we got on with emptying the cabinets with our own hands. Bottle collections ended up on kitchen worktops, glasses on silver platters and books on windowsills. Anything to keep things off the floor.
One cabinet was especially tall. There was something that felt like glass on top of it which even Sevan couldn't reach (maybe this was why Ms L wanted some big men). With no stable chairs to stand on, Sevan lifted Kash up for some extra reach and after a few minutes, down came some glass lamps and some papers. Good thing we hadn't tried to move it with these items up there.
After a lot of effort, the cabinets were clear and it was time to move them. Each of them had a piece of carpet sitting underneath and thankfully these were magical. They lifted the cabinets and whisked them to their new locations. All Kash and Sevan had to do was guide them under the door frames.
As Kash and Sevan left, Ms L expressed her gratitude. She didn't doubt the power of small any more.
