16 runners ran between 6-7k to finish painting a community hall
On a cold damp evening in Camden 16 lovely runners gathered at Somers Town Community Centre to run and do good. We had agreed to head back to a community hall on Athlone Street to finish a paint job we had started last week.
Back to work Scheme
The hall on this estate is used to deliver free training to help local people back into work. They have been doing great things- since April 19 people have found employment through these schemes. The hall is also used by local residents and community groups to run events, parties, family gatherings, and meetings.
Obscure running facts
After a few weird warm up exercises including an odd one that 'apparently' helped some guy win Olympic Gold back in the early 20th century (a tenuous story with very few factual detail), we headed out on the 2.5k run north.
The Blue Overall Crew
We arrived to see a crew from Origin Housing decked out in blue overalls. Frances, Trevor, Juned and Stuart had already made a start on the window frames and had left the rollers ready for us to give the walls another coat. We divided ourselves into 2 teams- each covering half the hall.
Proper Job
We worked through pretty quickly- and by 8pm the Hall looked great. It was really brilliant to come back and make sure the entire job was finished. Hopefully local residents will enjoy making use of their new plush surroundings!
**Primrose Hill V Camden High Street
We broke into 2 groups- one tackling a slightly longer route up Primrose Hill (4.5K) and the other cutting across Camden High Street and skirting along the railway lines way home to Somers Town (3.5K). There was some impressive running all round- with the longer group racing up Primrose Hill for a laugh and the shorter group taking a slight detour to take their run up to 4k. Nice one everyone.
