Find out about GoodGym TaskForce

Share the love

How many runners were at GoodGym Bristol? To be honest, I lost count. An epic turn out for the first run of 2015, including about 9 new people.

As this was a starter session, we kicked off 2015 with a little run to Queens Square to make sure we were warm before tackling the challenge of Brandon Hill. We'd got to the top to meet our contact with the Friends of Brandon Hill, only to be told we needed to go back down almost to the bottom again as our task was cutting back the epicormic growth on an avenue of lime trees (epicormic - An epicormic shoot is a shoot growing from an epicormic bud, which lies underneath the bark of a trunk, stem, or branch of a plant).

Due to the hoard of GoodGymers, we decided to split in to two groups - the pruners and the exercisers. I (Pru) had brought along a skipping rope and a few dyna-bands (aka giant rubber bands) and there was a handy space with chin up bars and an area for doing a mini circuits session right next to where the epicormic growth was being tackled.

So it turned out that our easy little run became running plus circuits plus pruning!

Once each group had done a bit of pruning and also gone around the circuits for about 20 minutes, we packed up and then split up again - this time to have a choice between a longer run back, up and around the hill with Chris, or to head straight back with me. We love options!

Once back at Roll For the Soul, we had a good old stretch and chat, and several of us stopped off for a snack too.

A massive welcome to all the new people to GoodGym - I hope that we'll see you again soon! And thanks to all our regulars for coming back in the new year to do more good!
