Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Elizabeth
A random half day found me in Southwark with Ian this afternoon for a mission for Ms G.
Ms G has been sleeping in her chair for the last few months. This is because her legs have swelled up and she's found it difficult to navigate through her flat as a result. GoodGym were asked if we could help set up a microenvironment in her living room by swapping some furniture in the living room with her bed.
This is probably the first time on a mission that I've ever introduced myself by partly falling through the front door after missing a step 😅 Mrs G's occupational therapist seemed a little taken aback by this, but generally seemed to take it in her stride. A few minutes later, we were introducing ourselves to Mrs G (with my TFL-themed Christmas jumper being a great hit) and getting started.
Overall, the job went very smoothly (we were finished around 20 minutes or so after our start time). This was, in part, because of the excellent preparation that Mrs G's occupational therapist had done for us in removing heavy items from the cabinets being moved.
With a lot of the nitty gritty done for us, moving three armchairs and three cabinets/bookcases out of the living room, and a light single bed and mattress into the living room was a doddle (although that might be a result of smooth operator Ian's clear instructions while we were moving. It's definitely much better than my handwavy attempts during most missions 😅).
Job done, Ian and I made our goodbyes to all, and took the essential selfie in front of a generic backdrop. Hopefully sleeping in a bed will help the swelling in Mrs G's legs go down, meaning that she'll be more mobile again soon :)
Nice seeing you again, Ian! 😄
