Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Ben Foster
On a scorching Saturday morning, 8 high vis clad Goodgym heroes stepped forth to remove discarded litter and waste from the road and surrounding verges on Binsey Lane. After donning sun cream and gloves, we set to work from West Oxford Community Centre using litter pickers kindly donated by West Oxford Community Association and refuse bags from OxClean.
We thought the major hazard of the litter pick would be cars zooming back and forth on the narrow road but regular signs of "Cat in Road" and "Danger Cats Crossing" meant we had more local concerns to keep an eye out for. There was also some excitement for the Asparagus being sold at Manor Medley Farm later in the day.
Despite these distractions and feline dangers, our heroes managed to fill several general refuse bags with litter discarded along the road, including a rogue wine glass and a top but alas, no pants were found. After covering most of Binsey Lane up to The Perch and Binsey village, we took the other route to "The Church", which turned out to be St Margaret of Antioch. Thankfully no rabbits were present to snuff it and only trusty litter pickers were required instead of a holy hand grenade to remove any small bits of rubbish.
After collating the bags back at base and informing ODS about the collection point and number of bags, we were eagerly awaiting a cold beverage after the long litter pick in the hot sun.
