SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Newcastle runner
Since I was the only GoodGym volunteer at the foodbank today I hope you’ll forgive some self indulgence. It feels great to be celebrating my (almost) birthday with my 150th good deed with GoodGym. It’s been an honour to be part of such an amazing group of people and organisation over the last three years and helping the East End Women’s foodbank over the last year has been particularly special.
Right. Back to the task. I know some of you will be on tenterhooks waiting for the next instalment of the cardboard-recycling-shipping-container saga! I was excited as I walked down the hill to see whether it had been emptied! But no! Still filling up! At least with the door wide open and the container three quarters full it’s easy to throw the cardboard in now!
Back inside and some general tidying up, taking tins and boxes out of their packaging and getting the packed bags into the delivery drivers’ cars. I was intrigued by the “honest” curry sauce - wonder what dishonest curry sauce would taste like - maybe a vindaloo labelled as a korma! Stocks are generally quite low at the moment but it was good to get the milk and juice stacked. So really juice-t another day at the foodbank!
East End Women offers practical courses for women to build confidence and skills around DIY, sewing, pattern cutting and basic trades. We also deliver the Freedom Programme domestic abuse recovery course, helping women to better understand the roots of domestic abuse and build confidence to identify warning signs in the future. In addition to this, East End Women also offer social activities and drop-in sessions for women experiencing isolation to meet one another, make friends and build local networks.
