SESSION ORGANISER
Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Jess Smith
Sara, Jen and Jess met up outside the new premises of Driven Forwards, the community supermarket based in Windsor.
They were welcomed into the Supermarket, by task owner Tiia, and given a list of tasks; cleaning shelves, restocking shelves, organising the front area and sorting stock, including bag single toilet rolls!!
The team started by wiping down all the shelves before starting the restock, ensuring the spaghetti loops, hoops and rings all ended up together! (Who knew there were so many names for the same thing!).
The Supermarket stocks a wide range of items from tinned goods, sugar, rice, pasta, soap powder, toilet roll and shower gel as well as fresh fruit, veg and bakery goods. These are all primarily donated from local supermarkets and are all items which are either damaged or past their 'use by' date.
All these items are then 'sold' to customers for a donation to the charity. Each customer is limited to 5 tins or packets to ensure there is enough to go around for everyone. They help a wide range of people and the Supermarket is open to everyone as the aim to to reduce food waste.
With the shelves brimming with goods ready for opening in the morning, cardboard boxes broken down and a fresh feel to the shop, the team left to make their way home.
Driven Forward use their minibuses to help disadvantaged and vulnerable adults access social events, days out and activities. During the Covid-19 pandemic they have expanded to set up the 'Community Fridge' fresh foodbank and worked with the Windsor Homeless project to feed the homeless.
