Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Simon Fitzmaurice
Our Goodgym crew (including new starter Jessica- welcome!) braved the patchy rainfall on Monday evening for another trip to Market Road Gardens and the Octopus Communities Network.
We started our group run with a short warm-up before jogging towards Mackenzie Road and towards Caledonian Park (passing the Ringcross Community Centre on our way). Upon our arrival, we met with Frannie of Octopus Communities, and immediately got to work on fixing up the green space. The objective is to make the area as presentable as possible before the local school groups return in September- and we have certainly made a marked improvement over the last few months.
John and Becca used loppers and a wheelbarrow to tidy up the overgrown foliage surrounding the perimeter of the park. Jessica and Trainer Simon assisted with weeding and clearing dropped leaves from the central picnicking area, while Aidan and Sally used secateurs to break down some large branches so they can be added to the Hugelkultur Bed (a mound of decaying wood debris and biomass, set to become a raised bed in the future).
We did a smashing job with our allocated time this evening, and after loading up the Octopus Communities milk float with tools and equipment, we proceeded to run the pleasant down hill slope back to base.
Lovely stuff everyone. I hope you come and join us next week for the following session:
Bank Holiday Special Fitness Session
Come and join us next week, same time (19.00), same place (Arsenal Hub, Benwell Road), for a one-off workout on Bank Holiday Monday. Trainer Simon will be leading a Kenyan Hills training session either at Highbury Fields or using the ramps surrounding the Emirates Stadium (weather permitting).
All paces welcome, as long as you can run for 30 minutes consistently!
