Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
38 runners ran 6k (or 3k with a core workout) and carefully weeded & quickly dug over a community garden, a strawberry field and Joyce's garden
Another brilliant sunny Goodgym. A whopping 38 of us ran round the corner to the Hollybush Estate and whilst the others went to weed and work on the various vegetable patches, allotments and lawns on the estate...
[Sub report: Our team of 17 took our tools to the Strawberry Fields. Quickly getting an eye in for what was a weed and what was a strawberry or a gooseberry, we picked out the grasses and dandelions from the fruit patch, picking carefully through between the fruits. The 3rd team dug over the garden near the community centre, avoiding various delicate shrubs and re-edging the beds to make everything ready for mulching.]
...myself and six others went to do some work in Joyce's garden.
Joyce has been poorly over the last few weeks and the garden was overgrown, so I mowed the lawn and turned over 5 foot of bedding and the others weeded. We were led by Sarah, who is the estates volunteer gardener. She has boundless energy and runs all the gardening in this huge estate and almost lives off the land.
Half of the group of 38 did a straight 6km back to the store, and our half ran 3km back via Haggerston Park where we stopped off for 2 reps of 3 core exercises; planks, roll-ups and lunges.
Job done. Tired and grubby. Home for a shower and an avocado :)
