Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Harvey Gallagher (he/him)
Two GoodGym run leaders, Ana and Harvey, met up at Old Street tube station for a rendezvous with around 30 of the good people from Two Circles. As we waited to set off and chatted all things GoodGym and football (or is that football and Goodym?), we tried not to mention the rain, for fear of jinxing the currently blue(ish) skies. Before the rain gods had a chance to changes their minds, we set off at a brisk walk in the destination of our task for the afternoon.
We reached Haggerston Park dry - it was a most welcome good omen! After an explanation of our tasks for the afternoon and a safety briefing, we donned work gloves and split into two group. This group was all about mulching - yeh, baby! For the uninitiated, we explained that mulch is a thick layer of material placed over the soil and around plants, used to suppress weeds and lock moisture into the soil, while acting as a physical barrier to drying winds and direct sun (so there you are!).
The group wheeled barrows and carried tools over to the side of the park. We reached a wooded area and set about moving a big pile of mulch. The teamwork and cooperation was there for all to see, and they worked hard (sweat was visible). And we covered a heck of a lot of path!
Being out in such a calming, natural environment really does sooth the soul. Their work done, the team posed for photos, wheeled back to base and headed off for some well deserved refreshments!
