Its great when a plan comes together, especially when others benefit from the good that is being done.

For our first taster session in Westminster we had a wonderful task for the wonderful people who decided they were going to give up their Saturday afternoons to find out exactly what we do.

Our task for the afternoon was to meet the lovely Deborah from the Canal & River Trust and sweep and clean around the short sections of towpath in Little Venice. Volunteers never usually get to clean this section as the café boat is permanently moored there.

Everyone arrived promptly at 2pm, I gave them an extended introduction and health and safety briefing and Deborah told us all about the canal and why what we were doing was so invaluable. We were given high viz vests and all the tools needed to get the job done.

With 40 minutes on the clock we began sweeping, collecting leaves, weeding, cleaning and litter picking.

Time flew by and In the blink of an eye 40 mins had passed and the walk way was glistening, no more litter, no more leaves, no more weeds. A job well done.

A Thankyou to our host for having us and we were off on our run. A quick 5k tour of the local area. A stop in pad Rec to show them the facilities, green space and pond life. A brief introduction to the built up environment than can be found away from the centre of Westminster and no week is complete with some intervals and technique work.

All round a great 90minutes spent with new friends...
