Experienced high altitude mountaineers always caution that successfully getting down from the summit is more important than reaching it...wise words that readily applied to today's heart rate raising adventure involving Mr M's chair(s) and his far too narrow doorways.

The task at hand was to move Mr M's (non-reclining, heavy) recliner chair from under him in the living room and leave it outside for collection. In turn a second (reclining) chair was in the bedroom and we needed to move that into the living room and so allow Mrs M to place Mr M on this new, working chair so he could relax in comfort. Thankfully Mrs M was on site to provide guidance and encouragement (and refreshments).

All was going pretty well as we started our ascent of the task - getting the old recliner out of the living room required a bit of spatial gymnastics, but after tipping it on its side, it somehow fitted through the doorway and we pushed it along the corridor, thinking that we'd just conquered the greater part of the task...only to find that the front door wasn't built with this chair in mind and it's non reclining attributes were now a bit of a hindrance.

After much perspiration with little progress, and aware Mr M was perched awkwardly on his sofa, we decided to leave the chair, wedged firmly in the front door, and move Mr M's other chair into the living room to allow him to sit back comfortably. As this chair did recline, this part wasn't so difficult and Mr M was grateful to be back sitting upright once more.

So back to the challenge of the wedged chair in the doorway...after trying various options to try and create just a bit more space to get the frame through the gap, we reverted to good old fashioned grunt, and by some miracle and a bit of rocking it finally worked free...we'd made it to the summit...but only to be then faced with the challenge of now getting the heavy and increasingly unco-operative chair up a flight of stairs and out of the building. Cue much more lifting, shoving and black humour.

Suffice to say we lived to tell the tale and got back to base camp in one piece, and so left a very grateful Mrs M (and a somewhat incredulous Mr M) to enjoy their Sunday afternoon from the comfort of their new viewing area.
