Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Stephen Tolfree
The trip almost started with disaster when we realised last minute that Victoria station was closed and the train was instead leaving from London Bridge, but luckily we all managed to meet up and get the train. There were six from Good Gym: Aine, Ivy, Heather, Sara, Simon and Stephen, with four guests: Ivy's friend Maria, Holly from the food bank, and Stephen's furry friends, Sherlock and Cleopatra.
After getting a caffeine fix in a local cafe we headed up the first hill which the group was disappointed to find was not one of the Seven Sisters. in hitting the Cuckmere river we considered rolling up our trousers and paddling across but not everyone fancied getting their feet wet.
As we got our full view of the seven sisters half a dozen paragliders swooped over us, looking like they were paragliding in their sleeping bags, and Ivy shared around Lindt chocolate balls.
Our lunch spot was perfect for people spotting but not so good for privacy as we were right next to the path. What made up for this was Sara's truffle oil crisps which she generously shared around.
On completing the Seven Sisters we stopped in Birling Gap for a pit stop and gender roles were reversed with a long and very slow queue for the gents and no queue at all for the ladies...
But the hills weren't over as we climbed Beachy Head and then finally got views of Eastbourne which promised downhill all the way. Rather than fish and chips we opted for a beer and food before getting the train home.
Despite some drizzle when we were on the train we had fine walking weather, overcast with no risk of sun burn. Despite some achy muscles and feet from the 13 mile walk we all had a top day out, the highlights being the conversations and the spectacular views.
