GG gardeners Max, Michelle & Celine met with Friends of Parkwood Springs for the monthly gardening session in the permaculture garden which overlooks the city.

This time we faced the arduous task of digging out the massive compost heap and digging the well rotted compost around the trees. We had to weed and scrape back the woodchip first, before we could give a lovely snuggly pillow of compost to each tree and cover back with the woodchip.

The garden looks really good and we hope the fruit trees will thank us later in the season with a good crop of cherries, plums, apples, blackberries, strawberries, grapes and currants!

Our country park in the city

Parkwood Springs is an amazing natural 'wild' space close to the centre of the city of Sheffield. There is woodland and heath, open parkland, and a range of natural habitats where wild lupins bloom, kestrels hover, and deer have been seen again. There are spectacular views over the city centre, the suburbs and the distant moors of the Peak District.
