Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Conroy
Spring is in the air, however due to the rain the evening quickly turned dark. Two Goodgym runners embarked on a mission to Grove Park to change a light bulb for Mrs S. The bulb in her kitchen had blown and she had resorted to using a small LED light whenever she wanted to use her kitchen at night. Mrs S is a very proud independent lady who is not shy when it comes to doing odd jobs around the house, however due to the height of the ceiling and her recent health problems climbing ladders are a thing of the past. She had gone out and bought the bulb but she was unable to change it herself, although she did let on that she attempted to change it with no success. We made sure we took the opportunity to remind her that the ladder was out of bounds and she should not be trying to change light bulbs. She smiled knowing that she shouldn't, but it is understandable as she was used to doing all her little jobs herself and not being able can be quite frustrating.
As I climbed on the ladder to change the bulb, Mrs S assumed the position as my spotter even though Nykolette was there supporting me and holding the ladder. If you look at the pictures you can see Mrs S hands waiting to catch me should I fall.
It was really great to see the look of appreciation on her face when the bulb was changed and the light came on, if only we could have taken a picture it would have told you one of the best stories. It is days like this and missions like this that gets us all out there representing goodgym up and down the country. A small task that took about 10 mins from start to finish (not including time spent chatting and getting to know more about Mrs S), brought so much joy and happiness to someone who was not in a position to do so.
With the mission accomplished we headed off to Goldsmith's community centre to meet the others for the group task.
