Two runners ran to Etlham to help Mrs J maintain her garden
Written by Ben C
Mrs J owing to physical ill-health has not been able to tend to her garden, so the lawn resembled something like Gareth's beard - unkempt. No mow; no problem as Mrs J produced a beast of a lawn mower. Indeed it is widely believed Christopher Nolan based the design of the Batmobile, in the Dark Knight trilogy, on this lawnmower.
Does it come in black?
However, evidently, the lawnmower hadn't been used for a while as it was difficult to get going. Gareth had to tease it into action but thereafter he had purring. As Gareth started mowing the lawn, under the baking sunshine, I took a few photos of him doing so from my shady position under the parasol. I then stupidly volunteered myself to do some lopping to the tree at the back of the garden. Destruction is my specialist skill set so I got to work cutting the branches back to the flowers. Gareth finished mowing the lawn and went round the edges with the skimmer.
Short back and sides.
On the evidence of the lawn, I'd let Gareth cut my hair. Tidy work. We all agreed that a cut lawn is a fine sight. In conversation, we learnt Mrs J is still very active in the community and does a lot of good herself, so we were thrilled to help a helper.
So, after about an hour of graft we were done (any longer in the sun and there was the real possibility Gareth's beard might have combust.) In total, we filled a wheelie bin and five black bags of garden waste.
Hopefully there will be more sunny days ahead so Mrs J can enjoy her garden. We did.
