9 runners ran a mile to help pack away after a community garden event, then ran back

A beauteous evening for running in East London yesterday. Healthy numbers present in the Aquatics centre, as we prepared for the short journey, roughly a mile, to the Mobile Garden City. It was a real treat to have some light for the first time since I've been GoodGym trainer, makes all that wintry grind worthwhile.

After a more vigorous warm up, we ran over to our task destination, not quite sure what would be in store for us. It was the Spring Celebration Event, over at our local community garden. We arrived as it was all winding down, some funky music bellowing out of a Marquee, some lively young ones and a corking skyline greeted us. The resident gardeners, Gabby and Ruth, welcomed us warmly and we quickly got to work. Dismantling marquees, two of them I believe. Packing away flags. General clearing. Shifting tables and chairs with superb team ethos. All working in unison, as the sun set in, a picturesque fashion over the Olympic Park.

A few post task snaps later, we skedaddled back over to the Aquatics centre. The guys went through an 'Up The Pyramid Turnabout Session'. Essentially, running outwards for a set period of time, having a break, then running back for the same amount. Ideally finishing in the same spot each time. I asked the guys to crank the pace as the time shortened, they obliged. I asked them to pace it so that they go out and back at the same speed, they executed it again. I finally asked for an extra bit of intensity on their final rep, they bloody nailed it. 'Twas but a pleasure!

Next week super Simon from Islington will be covering me, as I'm off racing 5000m. Please come in your droves and show him what we're about in Newham!

Catch you soon
