Report written by Becky (She/her)
It was a beautiful morning for a litter pick this Saturday! As goodgymmers congregated (at a healthy distance from one another) ready to meet our old friends from Meath Gardens, the park had a relaxed Saturday buzz, but not too busy for us to be able to weave our way around the park, armed with some brand new shiny litter pickers.
Tunde briefly explained the task ahead. In this era of outdoor socialising huge amounts of litter have been left in our open spaces and the Meath Garden reps have been drafted in to supplement the council's efforts in keeping the space clean.
So off we went, red t shirts visible in almost every corner of the park, tidying the space ready for the weekend ahead. A great haul of treasure was unearthed in the process - a hula hoop, a five pound note and some old floor covering being among the highlights. We met local families, mentally cheered on those exercising in the park and filled many, many bags of litter.
All in all, a productive morning and great to be back at Meath!
The Friends of Meath Gardens is a community organisation that is fighting to save, maintain and improve our green spaces. Meath Gardens, formerly Victoria Park Cemetery, is a large green area nestled next to Mile End Park. You can reach it over the footbridge near the Palm Tree and the Mile End Climbing Wall, or from Smart Street.
