Report written by Anastasia Hancock (she/her)
We had an amazing start to our run in Wandsworth last night, with a whole load of lovely news, new runners, some GG visitors and lots of cheers. If Carlsberg did Monday nights...
First we welcomed the lovely Molly to the group - great to have you join us. We also said hi to Jonathan who was visiting us all the way from Ipswich. Love a bit of GG tourism! There were loads of congratulations to be said to Tom who raced for Team Red Thunder in the met leagues at the weekend, and to new PBer Emily and Nick who both smashed a 10k in the Olympic Park on Sunday. You guys are all amazing. Speaking of amazing, Rachael , who is currently training for the London marathon took a few minutes away from her training schedule to only go and get engaged! Congratulations from all at GoodGym! Two engagements for the Wandsworth crew in two weeks - festive love is truly in the air!
We were already feeling all warm and tingly at this point, but headed outside to get even warmer. During our exercises we did a quick poll to find out the best snack to have while netflixing (yep, making that into a verb). Pizza and chocolate were crowned king of snacks, but other favourites were cheese, grapes and doritos, and beer.
We set off in the direction of Clapham Common for our task tonight, which was to deliver a pile of flyers for an incredible charity. Evolve Housing and Support is a homelessness charity in London providing supported housing for homeless people, providing shelter, support and advice to over 600 people each day who would otherwise be homeless across four London Boroughs. They are running a special Christmas campaign, which Fitness First in Balham are supporting, and our job tonight was to spread the word.
Splitting into two human chains we took a side of the road each and seamlessly posted a couple of hundred flyers through the doors and postboxes of Clapham. I definitely think we've cracked this distribution system, team. It only took us about 20 minutes to get rid of the whole lot, but would have cost the charity significant time and money to do it, so well done you!
Over on the common we kicked off what turned into a properly tough fitness session. It started off with a Chase the Hare where super speedy James managed narrowly to dodge all the chasers. We then moved on to a fiendish drill involving many, many burpees and sprints, before doing a competitive planking game which worked our cores to the max. One last game of Chase the Hare with Emily putting up a serious challenge, and we were done. All that was left was a cool down jog back to our starting point and a good old stretch.
A few dates for your diaries! This Friday is the huge GoodGym Christmas party at our home, the BAC. Next week we have another task that benefits the community, so sign up here, and then we have the long-awaited GoodGym Wandsworth Christmas party after our final run on the 18th December when we'll be jingling our bells all the way to the bar- more details soon to be revealed!
ps For the first time I forgot to take any pictures on our run - trainer fail! Luckily lovely team Wandsworth came to the rescue by sending me a whole load of lovely selfies. Looking hot to trot guys!
