Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
GoodGym Bristol organised a special one –off bike ride to coincide with the Bristol Cycle Festival. A sizeable crowd of cyclists gathered at Roll for the Soul, some regular GoodGymers and some new comers who were great to see.
There was a threat of rain in the air, so armed with waterproofs we set off for the evening’s destination – Feed Bristol in Stapleton. The ride was about 5 miles in total, with a great mostly traffic free route, up the Bristol Bike Cycle Path, through Eastville Park and then along the Frome.
FeedBristol is a community growing project run by Avon Wildlife Trust, managing about 6 acres of land, which they use to work with a really wide range of groups in Bristol. Our task was to dig over two large beds so they are ready to be planted with new crops. FeedBristol is part of the Blue Finger, grade 1 agricultural land which is very rare and under threat.
Armed with spades and forks we got stuck into the task, clearing away weeds and chard plants that had gone to seed. The whole grouped worked really hard, clearing both beds just in time. We had a quick stretch and then got back together to cycle back the same way along the Frome and back to the centre.
Great work everyone, especially everyone that came for the first time, and thanks to Matt for arranging the task and giving us an expert insight into the project.
